About

Welcome to my blog!

I am Sofie and this is a collection of all the things that quicken my heart. Souvenirs of virtual travellings, pins on the map of my explorations, results of selective research and sometimes lucky coincidence - to remember, to come back to, to order and to reflect - my systematically unsystematic archive, my own pathetic museum.

The initial idea to create this blog results from my need to create connections. I like to put things together, to visualize similarities and differences, variations and constants,  affirmations and contradictions. In other words: create a relation between the single and the whole.

The name of my blog is inspired by a scene in the movie Sans Soleil from Chris Marker, referring to The Pillow Book by Sei Shōnagon. The book contains 164 lists, such as "Things that make you feel nostalgic", "Things That One is in a Hurry to See or to Hear", "Things That Are Distant Though Near", "Things That Arouse a Fond Memory of the Past", "Things That Make One Nervous" and even "Things that cannot be compared" and "Things That Have Lost Their Power".

For me Sei Shōnagon's concept is an equally effective and poetic way to deal with random - or as it turns out, not so random - observations. A way of arranging and rationalizing how one feels about "things" and - by doing so - create a very personal perspective.

Some posts of this blog are lists in themselves, but mostly I am compiling lists by posting series, such as the collection of Circles, Mandalas and Radial Symmetry or Animals in Art. Another large part of this blog focuses on the art of photography. The series Black & White highlights various iconographic motifs, for example Windows, Mirrors or Shadows (see sidebar for keywords).

All artworks posted in this blog are the property of their respective copyright owners. IF there are any works posted against the wishes of the artist or maker, they will be removed upon request immediately.

Thank you, dear flâneurs, and especially all you regular visitors, for joining me in this journey, thank you for your continuous support and encouragement!
